Emission Control Solutions

Northern Mufflers offer a range of built-to-spec emission control solutions, to assist in removing harmful gases and particulate matter from diesel exhaust systems.

Diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs), or purifiers, are used to eliminate or change the gases and vapours via a reaction within the catalyst to make them less harmful to the environment.

Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) are used trap or filter particulate matter, to ensure they are not released into the environment.

Why do I need a DPF or DOC?

The primary reason for a DPF, DOC or similar emission control device or system is to protect the environment (including machinery operators) from harmful gases and particulate matter.

Not only is it a legal requirement to retain and maintain a DPF when it is factory-fitted to a vehicle, older vehicles may require a DPF to be retro-fitted in the case of:

  • Site-specific requirements (e.g. on a mine site)
  • Certain government regulations.

When do I need a DPF or DOC?

You may need a DPF and/or DOC if you are operating machinery in the following environments:

  • Underground (e.g. mining)
  • Partially enclosed areas, such as tunnels, road cuttings
  • Near buildings or pedestrians in open areas.

We can guide you through the design process – please contact us with your specific requirements so we can assist!

We are also a supplier of aftermarket, direct fit DOCs and DPFs for many vehicle makes and models, including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Elphinstone, Normet, Doosan, Sandvik, Volvo, Hitachi, Atlas Copco and Jacon, as well as mainstream automotive and heavy vehicle manufacturers.
